Rikard Skogberg says: October 18, 2010 at 9:20 am First of all – sorry for being quite absent over the weekend, I had too much personal stuff to take care of to have time here Following up on some questions from the second page of comments to this post: Dee, Regarding Google Voice, or if you mean Google Talk? – it’s not integrated into Timescape in this update either, sorry. . Glenn, Regarding prefessional feature requests on HD video – I agree, manual controls would be a cool addition and also locked exposure and stuff of course. I think that the mobile phone camera market isn’t quite there yet for professional features but your feedback will be forwarded for the future! Regarding frame rate fluctuations I’m not sure yet on the updated software but I’ll see what I can find! . James, Regarding equalizer and Mega Bass – nothing added in this update and at this point I don’t have info on future potential of such things either. . teknokid, Regarding availability of the update in the UK, I don’t have the detailed roll-out plan yet but will keep you posted when we start! . Curious George, I don’t have any first hand info on the Eduroam issue – I don’t have access to such a network to test it myself. However I saw someone recommending a solution in later comments here so try that out – I hope it works! Regarding battery draining I haven’t personally experienced that issue your describing, or at least not in a way I’m aware of. Do you have any step-by-step guide for me to test in my phone if it’s fixed? If so just let me know and I’ll test it! Regarding uninstallable apps I have forwarded that feedback earlier and we are looking into it for the future but application offering is to some extent local so it might differ between markets also. Regarding Android 2.2 I still only have the same answer as earlier – there is a next updated planned but at this point it’s not decided whether that update includes an OS step-up or not. . CarlosG, I’ve answered the question around in-call volume before and as I understand it the optimization that was possible in SW should already be done in the earlier updates. I haven’t seen any information on measurable improvements in this update and I haven’t noticed any major difference personally either, sorry. This is a very subjective thing though so please make sure to check if you hear any improvement when you have updated your phone. . Nimche, The moxier version in the current pre-release SW is 2.1.85 and I wouldn’t expect that to change for the final release now when we’re so close. Hope that answers your question. . Ahmed, Regarding arabic langauge I don’t think it’s added, at least I can’t find it in the langague selection in the phone. However I know that there has been a wider question around this and that it so some extent also were about just fonts needed and so – If you have things you want me to test in e.g. the web-browser just let me know! . Jack, No this update does not have wifi-tethering nor 16M colors, sorry. . Lethe, Regarding customizations to the default apps for email and messaging – yes I think so, at least design wise. The messaging app looks a bit different compared to the 1.6 version at least. I’m personally not using the email app since I use moxier and gmail but I’ll see what I can find out! Regarding custom solutions for things missing in 2.1 – No I haven’t seen anything about e.g. wi-fi tethering, apps on SD nor flash, sorry. . Baglai, Yes I will record more videos – thanks for you input. To make one thing very clear though to make sure you don’t have false expectations – This update does not give pinch-zoom or other multi touch things. . Ugh! Not Yet Impressed, I agree – most of the things that are new in the home screen is of course things that you can do yourself by install 3rd party home screens – that’s one of the very beautiful things with Android if you ask me. However it’s still very important for us to also make improvement in the default experience – not all users are informed enough to know how and what to install to really personalize their device. . Smigle, Not fully sure I understand your question about “X10v2″ and “X11″ but if you mean if this is new hardware in any way the answer is of course no. This is what you will be able to see in your current X10 when the update is available. . brentonang, Just downloaded them and gave them a quick go. I guess there might be things one should do before running them though so I’m not sure my results are that valid. Also we are still on pre-release SW so there can be extra debugging and things running in my sample. However – here we go! Linpack: 6.896 MFLOPS 12.16 seconds Norm res: 5.68 Precision: 2.22..E-16 fps2d: avg = 31 stdev = 4.27 . Foxhound494, Regarding themes and customization – no I haven’t seen any big differences when it comes to that besids that live wallpapers of course is a very nice addition. . Alwyn and Kai, Sorry to hear that you’ll miss arc-lock. I did at first as well but I think that the decision to go to straight-slide is the right one. Some people had problems with the arc-lock and now when I’m used to it the straigt-slide works fine. I kind of miss that nice trick on how to switch direction of the arc though . Kai, Regarding if this is all, no there are more things of course but these videos shows the most important addition (HD video and cont. AF) and the home screen which is important for most users. I will record more videos as we go along. As you say most things with the home screen are benefits of Android 2.1 and other things like e.g social phonebook is also benefit from that. That’s not as unique for us perhaps but still very nice additions of the underlying platform. . Rod M. Regarding “Looks like it’s ready – why not just release it?” – I wish it was that easy! As a manufacturer of mobile phones there are lots of requirements to comply to, both legal ones and from network operators. Therefore there are lots of different test and approval processes that each software for each kit needs to go through before we can release it to consumers. But we are getting close! . Bex, Regarding the wi-fi issue – Even though I have quite bad cellular signal where I live I still haven’t been able to reproduce the issue of loosing wifi when loosing 3G (I guess that’s what you mean?) So I’m not sure I can reproduce it myself and therefore can’t say for sure if it’s been fixed or not. Any hints as to how I can force it to happen? If so let me know and I’ll try! . Serge, Battery life is something very network and usage dependant so it’s tricky to say. I wouldn’t say that I’ve experienced any extreme increase but it feels like it’s a bit improved compared to before. But then also I’m using pre-release SW still so there could be things in it that aren’t fully optimized or have debugging code active still. . . Again – thanks for all your comments and questions! I’m running into monday morning meetings now but will sit down with page 3 of comments as soon as I have a free slot! |
