Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos

Galaxy Grand DUOS Android 4.2.2 Firmware Leaks, build I9082XXUBMF2 [Guide]
July 8, 2013 2:41 pm ⋅ 11 Comments ⋅ Abhijeet

From days where only the flagship device would get an update, Samsung has come a long way and now offers at least one major upgrade to many devices in their lineup, from the very low-end to the mid-range. In their long list of devices slated to get Android 4.2, the Galaxy Grandis present as well, and now an early Android 4.2.2 firmware has leaked for the dual SIM variant of the device.
The update carries the build number I9082XXUBMF2, and according to Sammobile includes features like a transparent notification bar, Smart Stay, a light effect on unlocking the screen, Page Buddy, and improved performance and battery life. The camera didn’t receive any features though, not yet anyway, but Android 4.2 features like Daydream screensaver are present.
The firmware is available for download and can be flashed by anyone willing to take an early peek at Android 4.2 on their Galaxy Grand DUOS. If you’re new to manual firmware flashing, we have a guide below to help you through the entire procedure through easy to understand steps.
Do keep in mind though that is an early firmware and is by no means complete, so there might be a few bugs and some things might not work. There’s a chance you might need to wipe all data in order to make it work, especially if you flash it over a custom ROM, and your phone’s warranty may be void after flashing the firmware.
Follow the guide below to install the Android 4.2 firmware on your Galaxy Grand DUOS.
Disclaimer: We hold no responsibility if you decide to follow the procedure given below. While the steps have been checked to make sure they’re correct, we won’t be held liable if your phone stops working, blows up, or decides to start some abnormal behavior (though none of that will actually happen).
Requirements:
 First, make sure you have the dual SIM variant of the Galaxy Grand, which has the model number GT-I9082. The model number can be checked in the Settings » About phone menu. Do not flash this on the single SIM Galaxy Grand, it will not work and brick your phone.
 Download and install the drivers for the phone. Best way to get the drivers is to install Kies, though you can also download the separate driver package from here.

 Take a backup of your installed apps and other data, such as SMS or Contacts. This is important as you might need to perform a factory reset in order to make the phone boot up. If you’re rooted, you can use apps like Titanium Backup and MyBackup Root, and if not, use apps like Helium or Super Backup. Once you backup the aforementioned data, copy everything from the internal storage to your PC as that will also get wiped in a factory reset.
Downloads
 Download the firmware from the link below.
Download Link (I9082XXUBMF2_I9082OXABMF2_OXA.rar, 807MB)
 Extract the firmware file (use a program like WinRAR for extraction) you downloaded above once, to get the following files inside:
o CODE_I8530XXAMF1_1053499_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
o CSC_OXA_I8530OXAAMF1_1053499_REV00_user_low_ship.t ar
o MODEM_I9082XXUBMF2_REV05.tar
o baffin.pit
NOTE: The first three files may also have .md5 at the end of their filename, which is normal as it’s the actual extension of the files but is hidden by Windows.
 Download Odin, which is the flashing tool that we’re going to use to flash the firmware on to the phone. Extract the file you download once to get around 4 files inside a folder named “Odin_v3.07.”
Download Link (Odin_v3.07.zip)
Installation Procedure
1. Once you’ve gone through the above steps and downloaded the necessary files, turn off your phone and disconnect it from your PC.
2. Press and hold down the Volume Down + Home + Power buttons until phone boots into download mode, also called Odin mode. In case you get a Warning! screen, press the Volume Up button to continue to download mode.
3. Open Odin by double-clicking the Odin3_v3.07 file.
4. Connect your phone to the computer (while it is in download mode.) Wait for the necessary drivers to finish installing. Once Odin detects the phone, the ID:COM box will turn yellow (or blue) and the words “Added!!” will show up in the white box at the bottom left of Odin. If you’re using a desktop computer, try to use the USB ports on the back as they’re more stable than the ones at the front.

5. Now, do the following in Odin:
A. Click on the PDA button, then select theCODE_I9082XXUBMF2_871997_REV05_user_mid_noship. tar file.
B. Then select CSC_OXA_I9082OXABMF2_871997_REV05_user_mid_noship. tar after clicking on CSC.
C. Add the MODEM_I9082XXUBMF2_REV05.tar file to PHONE.
D. Lastly, hit the PIT button (above PDA), and select the baffin.pit file.
E. Then, enable the Re-Partition option on the left. This is important, so make sure Re-Partition option is checked.
6. Make sure you don’t touch or change any other option in Odin.
7. Go through the above steps once again and make sure you’ve followed them to the letter, then click the Start button to start the upgrade procedure. Make sure you don’t interrupt the phone’s connection to the PC, or you’ll end up with a bricked device and need to reflash the firmware and possibly lose data.
NOTE: If Odin shows a FAIL message or doesn’t seem to be progressing for more than 4-5 minutes, simply disconnect the phone, remove and re-insert its battery, close Odin, then repeat the procedure from the beginning. Also try using a different USB port if possible.
8. Once the installation is complete, the phone will automatically reboot, at which point you can disconnect it from the PC and close Odin. The first boot will take a bit longer than usual, after which your device will be running on the flashed firmware.
My Phone Doesn’t Boot after Updating/Gives Errors, Help!
This is common when you flash an official firmware on a device that’s not from the same region, on a custom ROM, or if the firmware is not the final version, and the fix is pretty simple, though you’ll lose your installed apps and app data (hopefully you backed it all up as said in the requirements section.) Here’s how you can make your phone boot up if it’s stuck on the boot screen/resolves errors:
 If your phone is currently powered on, remove its battery and then re-insert it, but don’t turn it on again. Now, press and hold the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons till the screen turns on, after which it will boot into recovery mode.
 Using the volume buttons to scroll and the home/power button to select, select the “wipe data/factory reset” option and confirm the data wipe on the next step.
 Once the data wipe is complete, select the “reboot system now” option to reboot. The phone will now successfully boot up into the OS, after which you can restore any backups you took before flashing the firmware.
The Android 4.2.2 firmware is now installed on your Galaxy Grand DUOS. Remember, it’s a test firmware, so don’t expect everything to work properly, and don’t forget to leave a comment if you run into any problems during the flashing procedure.

-Why is my download not ending even though md5 is verified?
Ans : If you are using the USB cable which came with the phone please change it , it is damn slow !

-COM port is not turning up !!!!!!
Ans : Update your ADB driver or install it properly.

-All of the above is correct, then why the hell odin is not flashing the recovery ?
Ans : Try flashing through odin3 v3.07(try googling it for download),then too you can't get it right then the hell demon is in your mobile he'll not let you do this.
