Is it possible to unlock the boston for free? (eg. by rooting it and installing a custom rom?)
if yes can someone please tell me how?

Umm no lo se exactamente, yo pasé por la 1.6 y se me liberó, eso no significa que no se libere con otra versión, pero pongo lo que estoy seguro que funciona

Hello,

I have a problem. Have updated the Orange Boston from the original 1.6 to 2.1.9 apanda version and after doing the factory reset and rebooting the phone started asking me for sim network pin and it now is locked altho from what I hear it shouldn't be since I updated the rom.

The IMEI seems to be ok , have a 15 digit imei but even if it would be not ok, I don't know what the ok imei should be.
Don't know why the phone is locked or how to unlock it. Phone works with the Orange sim but not with other networks.

Please help.

P.S. After doing the apanda 2.1.9 version on it, today I updated to the gigabyte 2.1 version and still locked.

to unlock imei it's necessary to flash firmware 1.6.2 from apanda. with tha firmware you unlock the imei and you'll be able to use the phone with any operator.
the original imei its uder de battery.

Ok, spent the last couple of hours (since I saw your message) trying to downgrade to 1.6.2 or 1.6.1 rom apanda. Tried with SUT, with RUT, by copying the nb0 to the sd card and renaming it to firmware.nb0, tried everything I can think of.
Even to force a system.img on it (even if I had 2.1.9) and ended up trying to reflash with 2.1.9.

Any ideas please as to how I can downgrade ?

P.S. SUT keeps telling me it's the wrong image.
RUT tries to update but after 2-3 ok lines (the ones that end with =1 ) on the phone it just hangs.
Error while trying with the firmware on sd card is "Prepare failed rc = 0".

A couple of hours later:

Tried update from a xp machine, downgrade failed. Now I'm stuck at "BOOTING RECOVERY FROM FLASH" That's all that my screen shows right now.
Can't go into recovery mode or anything. Computer installs a "ADB interface". Please help.

try it in recovery mode and in download mode to flash the 1.6.2 with rut selecting the nb0 of the 1.6.2 firmware. it should work well.

Solved with "fastboot recovery recovery-a88ds-v1.6.0.2.img". After that I had a recovery menu and managed to unlock the phone and update it back to 2.1.9. Thank you for your help
