We'd like to mention that we are a recent and relatively small startup with only a handful of members. As is the case with any new startup that offers a new product with features that are too good to be true for an even better price, there is going to be a hue and cry about it from non-believers, competitors, internet fanboys and "tech writers" like the one in the link you've shared. There are several elements online that try to hurt and even destroy a genuine venture before it has taken off through misleading propaganda. We at Ono are facing the same issue. All we can say at this stage is that all of these rumors are unsubstantiated, baseless, and as the name states, just rumors. Speculation is the easiest thing to do as it doesn't require the time and effort needed for proper research - as is the case with the writer of this article.
Just to clarify on some of the things mentioned in this article:
1. Ono is a global startup with team members spread across the world. Like most small startups, we may not have a centralized office location where all of us sit, but this doesn't mean that we don't exist. There are literally tens of thousands of global startups which work out of apartments or remotely with all their team members spread across different countries. They may not have an office, or a phone number, or even a P.O Box number (which we do), but they are definitely real and committed towards the product(s) they're building.
2. We have had several pre-orders already, and to ensure protection of our customer's money, we have opted for Paypal as our payment mechanism. Paying through Paypal ensures that our customers' money is safe and will be refunded in the event that we do not deliver the U1 on the promised date. This, as you know, is a guarantee and something that the article you'd shared has simply refused to acknowledge or mention (like we mentioned, misleading propaganda).
3. For better service, we are currently negotiating a deal with Amazon to be able to host our pre-orders on their website. This might actually help increase customer confidence in us. We are hard at work as we speak, trying to work out this deal.
