To properly set white text colors go to "Spare Parts", "Status Bar Options", "Status Bar Colors", "Set All Colors", use code "ffffffff". Then go back to "Notification Items", and set them ALL black to: "ff000000". Then Reboot.
Back to stock look with Ported Desire Status Bar and Settings:
