1.
I had the same problem when I installed the skyfire browser on my HTC Diamond. After uninstalling application default browser was pocket internet explorer. To change it back to opera change registry keys on your mobile device as follows:
HKEY_CLASSES _ROOT/htmlfile/Shell/Open/Command OperaL.exe file:%1
HKEY_CLASSES _ROOT/http/Shell/Open/Command OperaL.exe file:%1
HKEY_CLASSES _ROOT/https/Shell/Open/Command OperaL.exe file:%1
You are just changing the string form iexplore.exe file:%1 to OperaL.exe file:%1 in the registry keys metioned above.
I hope this helps
2.
Excellent! This has resolved a problem I was having with my Sprint Touch Diamond. I wanted my emailed links to open in Opera, and not IE. I had a registry fix, but I didn't have the correct exe name for Opera! OperaL... who'd have thought it!

For anyone who is interested the whole fix is here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EF BROWSWER

change 1 to "OperaL.exe" <with the quotes>
change 0 to "Opera Mobile" <with the quotes>
