Earlier in the week we published a cheeky exclusive (http://www.mobot.net/samsung-confirms-nfcenabled-galaxy-ii-launching-uk-month-23138), thanks to Mobotnik SimboUK, revealing that an NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S II would be released later in the year. Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S II was launched only a couple of weeks ago in the UK, without support for contactless payments.
Simon Stanford, Samsung’s MD for mobile devices in the UK and Ireland, has been speaking to TechRadar (http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/samsung-explains-galaxy-s2-spec-change-955332) about the last-minute changes – some good, some bad – to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
With regards to NFC, Simon said: "I'm not 100% sure why [NFC] was taken out of this specific market model; a lot of it could be due to time to market and there may well be some iterations coming along.
"You have to remember that the UK was the first launch market outside Korea for the Galaxy S2, so I think that making sure elements like low weight and improved rigidity meant [removing NFC] was deemed necessary to get the perfect device out there, especially as the technology is still quite fledgling."
Er, I’m not entirely sure that’ll be enough to appease the folks who’ve already invested hundreds of pounds in the NFC-less model.
But it wasn’t all bad news. The Samsung Galaxy S II’s processor received an eleventh-hour bump from 1GHz to 1.2GHz dual-core, courtesy of the Exynos CPU. No complaints here.
Si explains: “That's a case of showing our technical superiority, we should be doing that, we are hugely ambitious organisation, so if we're going to launch something as great as the Galaxy S2, we're going to launch it with the best technology packed in we possibly can."
Vamos que ni ellos saben explicar porque no hay NFC. Sin más.
