How did you do that ? Did you pull also the Contacts.odex ?
Not sure if libraries from 1.6 are compatible with 2.1 or if you need to sign the app again.

This file is not exist in "app", only contacts_*.apk
I asked - whether the possibility to establish contacts from firmware 1.6. in firmware 2.1
